How are the Texas people like?

by on March 31, 2011

I аm thinking аbουt attending Rice University, bυt I аm a very liberal kid whο dеѕріѕеѕ sports аnd іѕ аn asian.

Sіnсе Texas consists οf a large number οf Republicans, hοw’s thе state’s people іn general toward minority groups? Please сlаrіfу thе jokes аbουt rednecks, аrе thеу really rіght? Whаt аrе thе ехсеllеnt/tеrrіblе things аbουt Texas whеn іt comes tο shared aspects?
I саnnοt believe ѕοmе “righties” аrе even getting mаd аt mе fοr asking thіѕ qυеѕtіοn. Yου саnnοt hеlр bυt feel a sense οf rаgе toward thе liberals’ prejudice whеn ѕοmе οf уου guys аrе doing thе same tο thеm. Republican/Democrat, dοеѕ nοt everyone wаntѕ a better country аnd more friendly background?

All I аm asking іѕ аbουt tolerance іn Houston, bυt obviously ѕοmе dο nοt approve οf such behavior…

Thеrе іѕ nο need tο bе offended unless уου аrе уουr οwn discrimination…

i went to texas last year I would have to say that I wasn’t there long enough to gather about the people that live there but while I was there and working they all seemed very nice everyone says hi and stuff it seemed everyone selected up a conversation with me in a nice way but like ever state and country your going to run into some nice people and some terrible people but texas is wonderful I would have stayed if I could have

They will despise you :)

Wow, you’re a real tolerant one, too.

Kid, do us a favor. Don’t go to Rice. Go to some stuck up blue state school where ALL of you ignorant, snooty leftists look down your noses at real America.

EDIT: Spare me. It is your arrogance and derogatory statements that turn some of us off. I mean, how dare we disagree with you, the enlightened liberal teenager.

Pfaaaah.

yes all the redneck jokes you hear about us are so right it is so sad.

Get a life dude, we are just like every other self in the united states.
We’re a very diversified city with just about something for everyone.

People for the most part are friendly, kind and considerate as long as you are being the same. Now if you come with a negative terrible attitude you will in turn piss off enough people where they will give the same back to you.

Texans can be your best supporter or worst enemy you have the choice of which way you want that relationship.

Houston itself is very diverse. There people of all religions, colors and political beliefs. The only thing you will be judged on is your own reputation.

I can’t help but feel a bit of dejavu with this question and wonder if this is another made up Avatar by Houston Travels Troll.

Texas is a wonderful house full of very tolerant and simple going people. My kids used to go to school near Rice and their school has kids from over 40 countries. http://www.robertselementary.org/information/info.html

The really impressive thing is that they had students and parents from a lot of Islamic countries (it isn’t unusual to see a mom in a burka) and had kids who’s dad’s were off in the Army Reserve in Iraq or Afghanistan and they never had a release incident. Skin color doesn’t matter here, we care about your ability, your intelligence, and if you can get along well with others.

You don’t seem to have that “get along well with others” thing down so I’d recommend you go to school up in some Yankee state where you will find people who will impart your prejudices; rather that down here where they would be disproven.

Dude….
Houston is full of asians!
We will like you here! And how do you know it’s full of Republicans?
Why would it even matter? Rice is a very excellent school :)

The jokes aren’t even right and it’s kinda amusing you’d believe them.
(I’m trying my best not to be irritated with your stupidity and just
answer the question as calmly as I can)
The rednecks only pop out of their holes around rodeo time.

All you have to worry about here is the humidity and the horrible drivers.

It is not the “sense of rage toward the liberals’ prejudice”, it is the fact that you are coming off as extremely belligerent and negative towards anyone you reckon might disagree with you. You sound like you are on the hit. You will have distress no matter where you go if you keep the attitude you are taking right now.

Rice is a very excellent school and it is located in a pretty part of town. It has never been known for it’s athletic program. It has always been known for it’s academics. Houston is a very nice house to live and the people will treat you the same way you treat them.

Lam is right, be ready for humidity and horrible drivers(really crazy compared to cali.where i used to live, and u often see the ”holy” smoke comes out of a car, or a redneck without a shirt on pouring, it’s crazy). who cares about color or political views. dont’ reckon about it, delight in ur college life! there are many elegant and non-ignorant and open minded in every large city in the world. go hunting, marry a same sex spouse, who cares?
