they’re basically the same thing. hick is another word for them but I heard that the term hillbilly originated in Ireland
A redneck is more of a southern term–a hillbilly is a northern term. It’s pretty much a slang term for a specific group of white people (I guess there can be black rednecks as well) who live a particular way–if you want a excellent definition, look up the list that jeff foxworthy has, or look him up on youtube. Reading that list will give you a better thought of what defines “redneck.”
